1. Introduction

Welcome to Colossus ("the app"). Colossus is a third-party client for federated networks that offers a native iOS experience with built-in post translation. The app works through the public API of compatible instances. By using the app, you accept these Terms of Service.

2. Use of the services

By using Colossus, you agree to:

  • Use the app responsibly and comply with your instance's and Apple's platform terms and conditions.
  • Keep your account secure and authorize only the permissions you want to grant to the app.
  • Not use the app for illegal, harmful, fraudulent or spam activities, or activities that violate third-party rights or your local community guidelines.

The app requires an active internet connection to communicate with your instance's servers. The developer is not responsible for the app's functioning if you do not have an internet connection.

3. User-generated content and zero tolerance

Colossus has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. You may not use the app to publish, distribute or promote illegal, threatening, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, fraudulent or otherwise objectionable content, or to abuse other users.

Posts and accounts are hosted and moderated by the Mastodon instance chosen by the user. Colossus provides the following safeguards:

  • Report a post or account to the moderators of your instance, with optional forwarding to the originating instance.
  • Block or mute abusive accounts. Their content is removed immediately from the visible timeline, search results and bookmarks after the server confirms the action.
  • Manage blocked and muted accounts from Settings > Moderation and Safety.
  • Content marked as sensitive by the server remains hidden in the app.

Moderation decisions, content removal and account suspension are handled by the relevant Mastodon instance under its own rules. Concerns about Colossus, these Terms or abusive use of the app can be sent to jcpdev2030@gmail.com.

4. Data processing

How Colossus uses data is described in more detail in the Privacy Policy. In summary:

  • The app does not maintain its own servers or a centralized user backend.
  • OAuth tokens and session data are stored securely in the iOS Keychain.
  • Translations are processed locally on the device using Apple's technology.
  • Your account data (timeline, profile, notifications) is obtained directly from your instance's servers through the public API.

5. Intellectual property

Colossus does not claim ownership of the content published on your instance or of the translations generated by Apple's technology.

  • The rights to the content you publish belong to you, subject to your instance's terms.
  • You are responsible for the content you publish through the app.

The Service and its original content (excluding third-party content and Apple translations), its features and functionality are and will remain the exclusive property of the Developer. The Service is protected by copyright, trademark and other laws.

6. No warranties

No warranties: Colossus and its services are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including, among others, warranties of accuracy, reliability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.

Third-party dependency: The app depends on your instance's servers and Apple's translation technology. The developer does not guarantee the availability, accuracy or continuity of these third-party services.

7. Limitation of liability

No liability for third parties: Colossus is not responsible for the acts, errors, omissions, interruptions, failures or negligence of instances, Apple or any other third-party service provider, nor for any damages or losses that may arise from their use.

Your responsibility: By using the app, you assume responsibility for verifying the suitability and accuracy of any content or translation. Automatic translations may contain errors. You agree to hold the developer harmless from claims or damages arising from decisions you make based on content or translations obtained through the app.

Since the app is free, the Developer's total liability shall be limited to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.

8. Suspension or termination of use

Colossus does not manage its own user accounts. Your access depends on your account and your instance's terms of service. We may stop offering the app at any time without prior notice.

Third-party content: The app displays content published by federated-network users and may contain links to external websites. The Developer has no control over and assumes no responsibility for third-party content.
