Frequently asked questions

Do I need to create an account?

No. Aldebaran works locally without registration. Connecting a Trakt account is optional and is only needed if you want to import and sync activity supported by that service.

Where is my data stored?

Your library, progress, lists, and cache are stored on the device with SwiftData. If you turn on sync in Settings → Sync, your private iCloud keeps that data up to date across your Apple devices; the developer cannot read it.

Can I use Aldebaran offline?

Data already saved locally remains available. New searches and up-to-date content require a network connection because they come from TMDB; when a cached copy exists, Aldebaran can show it as a temporary fallback.

What does Trakt sync?

When you connect Trakt, Aldebaran can import and sync watch history and progress, watchlist items, favorites, ratings, and personal lists. Changes are saved on the device first and then sent to Trakt.

What happens if Trakt fails or rejects a change?

The local value is preserved. Temporary failures can be retried, and rejected changes remain identified without undoing what you saved in Aldebaran.

How do I connect or disconnect Trakt?

Use the account section in Aldebaran settings. When connecting, Trakt asks you to authorize access. When disconnecting, Aldebaran tries to revoke the session and, if successful, removes the device credentials. If revocation fails, it temporarily keeps the session so it can retry. Your local library remains available, and content in your Trakt account is not deleted.

How do I delete local or Trakt data?

Remove titles, activity, or lists in Aldebaran to change the local copy. When Trakt is connected, supported deletions may sync. To keep the remote copy unchanged, disconnect Trakt first; to remove data already held by Trakt, manage it directly in your Trakt account. Disconnecting or deleting the app does not by itself delete remote data.

Does Aldebaran translate synopses?

Yes. Overviews, titles, and genres are translated on your device with Apple's Translation framework, without sending text to any external service. The system may ask you to download the language the first time; you can also translate manually from the detail screen.

How do release alerts work?

Turn on alerts in Settings and Aldebaran will ask for notification permission. They are local notifications scheduled on your device from catalogue dates, for the shows you follow and the releases you are waiting for. You can turn them off at any time.

Does Aldebaran play TV shows or movies?

No. Aldebaran is not a streaming service: it only helps you organise and track what you watch and find out which platform offers each title in your country. Trailers open in YouTube.

How do I add a title from Safari?

Open the title's page on a supported website such as TMDB, tap Share and choose "Open in Aldebaran". The app recognises the title and lets you add it to your library.

Which devices are supported?

Aldebaran is designed for iPhone and iPad running iOS 26 or iPadOS 26, or later.
